Curriculum Enrichment Week
22nd - 26th June 2025
22nd - 26th June 2025
This site contains the programme of various activities being offered to our students during Curriculum Enrichment Week here at DHSB.
During these 5 days, our normal school timetable is suspended and replaced with a fantastic selection of activities to suit all interests and budgets, enabling students in Year 8 to 10 the opportunity to experience new things, develop their skills or to deepen their knowledge base.
Please take the time to read through the following information with your child before making a selection, paying close attention to timings and transport requirements for each activity. It is important that students can make their way safely to and from an activity venue, if the activity requires and should they pick them. An overview of the week can be found at the bottom of this page.
Aims of the week
To offer pupils in Years 8-10 a chance to take part in activities they may not previously have experienced, concentrating on and creating opportunities for them to extend their learning from a selection of artistic, sporting and educational and adventurous attractions.
Pupils will be encouraged to take on new personal challenges, develop team work, communication and social skills, whilst having fun along the way.
Application Process
Places are not allocated on a first-come, first served basis, and all applications received by the deadline will be considered equally. We will endeavour to meet the request of as many of our students as possible across their 3 choices but in the event that we are not able to accommodate these choices, due to oversubscription or activities not meeting the minimum number of participants, we will contact parent / carers with alternative options.
If your child is on a residential activity during this week DO NOT complete this form.
The application form can be found here (open for responses from Friday 14th November until Sunday 23rd November)
Please note that late returns severely delay the organisation and allocation of places, so your continued support and co-operation is extremely important in meeting deadline dates.
Payment for activities
No payment will be asked for until allocation has taken place. This will be available to view on MCAS around mid January. You will receive a message to inform you of when this goes live. Payment schedules will be available for you to make payments between January to end of April when full payment needs to be completed. The costs quoted are calculated on the basis of maximum numbers being allocated, this may vary slightly if numbers fall short. If this should occur you will be informed of any changes when you are invoiced. We have ensured that there are a number of low cost and free activities running every day.
Once allocations have been made we will not be able to accommodate any changes as numbers would have been confirmed with host venues and so please ensure your child only selects activities that they would be happy to participate in and you will be prepared to pay for.
For those students who are eligible for Pupil Premium, parents/carers will be contacted shortly regarding support we are able to offer.
Behaviour and Attendance for the week
We expect all students to uphold the high standards of conduct and behaviour expected throughout the school year during Enrichment Week. Any incidents of poor behaviour during activities may result in the student being withdrawn from the activity. In such cases, refunds will not be issued, and parents/carers may be asked to collect their child from the activity location.
Curriculum Enrichment Week is a vital part of your child’s education and forms part of the regular school term. Attendance is compulsory, not optional. It is essential that students attend as they would during any other school week. Absences will only be authorised for valid reasons, such as illness or medical appointments. Any unexplained or unsupported absence will be recorded as unauthorised.
Overview of Activities
Please see below the overview of activities that are running across Curriculum Enrichment Week. Clicking on the links at the very top of this page will take you to more detailed information regarding each activity.
Please note that pupils must be at the pick up point ten minutes before departure as the coaches cannot be delayed.
Trips leaving around 0845/0900 will wait for approx. 5 minutes to allow for school buses to arrive, but pupils must contact the school if they are going to be late so that a decision can be made as to holding off departure.
If your child misses his coach you will still be liable for the payment for that trip/activity, NO refunds can be given.
In the case of sickness the production of a medical certificate will allow for the consideration of a refund.
If your child misses their coach/mini bus they must report to reception so that alternative arrangements can be put in place for them.
Local trips should not overrun, but delays due to traffic or other causes may occur. Your co-operation is requested to ensure that alternative arrangements are made for your child to get home should they miss the school bus.
Prior to Enrichment Week, some activity providers will require waivers to be completed and returned. If these are not completed and returned your child will not be able to attend the relevant activity. This is for health and safety reasons.
If a student is in receipt of a free school meal (FSM) then these will be ordered in advance for them. Otherwise, meals can be purchased from Refuel for school-based activities, although they will be providing a reduced service only. Off-site activities will require a packed lunch to be provided or money to purchase refreshments where appropriate.
